SYSTEMS THINKER
Systems thinker during disruptions in higher education institutions
Authored an op-ed arguing for the necessity of retaining Chinese researchers to maintain the U.S.’s competitiveness in innovation.
This op-ed argued for the need to retain Chinese researchers in U.S. institutions as it is advantageous for both Americans and Chinese, not to mention the world at large because of the knowledge, products, and ideas that emerge from these partnerships. The goals of this op-ed were twofold: to impress upon the importance of retaining this demographic of researchers and to ebb the tide of increasingly hostile rhetoric against Chinese.
Importance
This op-ed is important because it shows how disruptions at the local, national, and global level impact higher education. It shows how politics has infiltrated American higher education institutions, encouraging educational professionals to be instruments of change within their no-longer insular institutions or suffer the consequences.

Ideally, this op-ed inspired educational professionals to not stand idly by while the landscape of education and the future of scientific innovation in the United States is being thwarted by politicians who have little understanding of the complexities and interconnectedness of the higher education system in the United States.
